Your base isn't cosmetic — it's a hidden stamina engine. A well-placed, well-decorated base can double your effective combat uptime through the Rested buff.

1. Where to Build

Don't build on the starting island. Explore first, then build near water AND clay deposits. Clay is found in dark muddy patches inland (not on beaches). Mine it with a Stone Pickaxe. A base near water gives you easy ship access; clay is essential for advanced crafting. (Community-sourced strategy)

2. Build a Bonfire First

Your first build should always be a Bonfire (or Signal Fire). It grants the Rested buff which dramatically increases stamina regeneration speed. Your Flagship also grants the same comfort bonus as your highest base. (Source: GGWTB)

3. Comfort Level Explained

The maximum Comfort level is 35. To reach max comfort, you need: (Source: GGWTB)

  • Fire source: Bonfire or Signal Fire
  • Bed: Any upgraded bed (not Simple Bed)
  • Decoration categories: Build one item from each category — Seating, Tables, Shelves, Lighting, Carpets, Wall Decor, etc.
  • Trophies: Build every trophy (Crab, Dodo, Boar, Wolf, etc.) — they stack

4. Base Expansion Priority

  1. Bonfire — Rested buff (stamina regen)
  2. Storage chests — inventory fills fast
  3. Crafting stations — workbench, forge, etc.
  4. Shipyard — ship repair and upgrades
  5. Comfort decorations — push Comfort toward 35

5. Fast Travel

Players report finding Fast Travel Bells that can be placed at your base and dungeon entrances for quick travel between key locations. (Community-sourced — unconfirmed mechanic name)

Quick checklist: Build near water+clay → Bonfire first → Push Comfort toward 35 → Storage → Crafting → Shipyard. Your base is a stamina engine, not just a house.
